Ghana’s Tourism Minister Launches “Visit Volta Region” Campaign to Boost Regional Tourism
The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dzifa Abla Gomashie, has launched a nationwide campaign titled “Visit Volta Region”, aiming to position the Volta Region as a leading tourist destination in Ghana.
This initiative seeks to tap into the region’s rich cultural heritage, diverse natural landscapes, and largely unexplored tourism assets to drive economic development and job creation.
As reported by gna.org.gh, a four-day field tour across the Volta Region involving all agencies under the Ministry demonstrated a strategic, inclusive approach to institutional engagement and tourism promotion.
During the tour, the Minister visited key attractions such as the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and Cultural Village, Adaklu, and the iconic Wli Waterfalls, among several others. She was accompanied by her Deputy, Mr. Yussif Jajah; the Chief Director of the Ministry; CEOs and their deputies; and Executive Directors from all 13 agencies under the Ministry’s portfolio.
The initiative also included a retreat that brought together seasoned professionals, including former Directors from the Public Services Commission and the Office of the Head of Civil Service, as well as a respected Ambassador from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their role was to provide orientation and strategic insight, especially for newly appointed public servants.
In a meeting with regional staff from the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, and the National Commission on Culture, Madam Gomashie emphasized the importance of unlocking the tourism potential of the Volta Region—her first stop in a broader nationwide tour.
“The decision to begin this journey in the Volta Region is deliberate. It is a region known for its unique and diverse topography, making it a cradle of immense tourism potential,” she stated. “Our goal is to explore collaborative strategies to fully harness these opportunities in line with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama and to strengthen institutional capacities for tourism development.”
The Minister also acknowledged the contributions of Wode Maya, one of Africa’s leading tourism vloggers, and Mr. Abeiku Santana, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, for their efforts in amplifying the “Visit Volta Region” message.
As part of her engagements, Madam Gomashie and her delegation are expected to pay a courtesy call on Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, to discuss collaborative efforts in developing the region’s tourism sector.
Following the Volta Region tour, the Minister and her team will continue their visits to other regions as part of the broader agenda to promote tourism across the country.
