New Seasonal Service San Francisco and Guatemala City
Avianca is expanding its Central America–United States network with a new seasonal service connecting Guatemala City and San Francisco during the busy summer travel period.
The route will operate from June 1 through August 31, 2026, offering travelers a more convenient connection between Guatemala and Northern California. It is expected to serve both vacationers and passengers visiting friends and relatives.
The service will form part of Avianca’s San Salvador–Guatemala City–San Francisco operation and will be flown aboard an Airbus A320 with capacity for 180 passengers.
Flight Schedule
Flights from Guatemala City to San Francisco will depart at 1:20 a.m. and arrive at 6:25 a.m. The return flight will leave San Francisco at 7:45 a.m. and arrive in Guatemala City at 2:15 p.m.
The service will operate four times per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Flight times and operations remain subject to final government approval.
The early-morning arrival in San Francisco will give passengers convenient access to connecting flights or the opportunity to enjoy a full day in Northern California. Meanwhile, the daytime return schedule provides a practical arrival time in Guatemala City.
Strengthening Connectivity with the U.S. West Coast
Air service between Guatemala and the western United States has traditionally been limited, often requiring travelers to connect through cities in Texas, Florida, Mexico, or other regional hubs.
Avianca’s new seasonal operation will provide a more efficient travel option while supporting growing demand between Central America and California. It will also strengthen the airline’s international network by connecting El Salvador, Guatemala, and the United States through a single operation.
For travelers arriving in Guatemala City, the route also provides convenient access to Antigua Guatemala, one of the country’s most popular destinations. Known for its colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and surrounding volcanoes, Antigua is an essential stop for visitors exploring Guatemala.
Avianca stated that the new service responds to customer demand for greater connectivity between important destinations. The expansion also reflects the airline’s strategy of growing its international network while maintaining a strong focus on operational efficiency and reliability.
Guatemalan authorities have welcomed the announcement as another step toward improving international connectivity, encouraging tourism, and supporting economic development through cooperation between the public and private sectors.
