To strengthen the coast of São Paulo, the document was signed this Monday with the aim of contributing to the recovery of the economy in the region hit by heavy rains.
Embratur participated, this Monday, in the opening of WTM Latin America, the largest tourism fair in Latin America, held in São Paulo. On the occasion, the Agency’s president, Marcelo Freixo, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen Tourism on the Coast of São Paulo after the tragedy that hit part of the region’s municipalities during Carnival. The agreement aims to mitigate the effects of heavy rains, structuring the recovery of the economy in the region.
In addition to Embratur, the document was signed by the secretary of Tourism and Travel of São Paulo, Roberto Lucena, and the secretaries of Tourism of the five municipalities that make up the North Coast/North Coast Touristic Circuit, of Baixada Santista/Atlantic Coast Tourist Region, of the South Coast/Lagamar Tourist Region (Iguapé, Ilha Comprida and Cananéia) and the Brazilian Association of Tourism Operators (Braztoa), totaling 16 cities.
“This partnership with the secretary of Tourism of São Paulo, Roberto Lucena, and the mayors of the coast of São Paulo is strategic for us to bring more visitors from South America. This is how we will strengthen the economies of these cities. We will promote sun and beach destinations, in addition to ecotourism. And also include holding workshops to promote sustainability and train workers to further improve the tourist experience and generate more jobs,” says Embratur president Marcelo Freixo.
São Paulo Secretary of Tourism, Roberto de Lucena, highlighted the strength of WTM to “bring the world to Latin America and promote Latin America to the world”. “It is a privilege for São Paulo to host a fair that connects destinations and people, presents exclusive products and launches that encourage this great locomotive that is tourism.”
In the mutual cooperation agreement, actions by Embratur are foreseen, such as running an advertising campaign on the internet promoting attractions on the coast of São Paulo in strategic markets such as Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay; a marketing support campaign with operators, with Braztoa; workshops with the theme of International Tourism and Climate Change, with municipalities on the north and south coasts, with the objective of promoting the training of public managers, businessmen, liberal professionals and community members on climate changes and international tourism.
Entrepreneurs and public managers will also have training available on an online platform on Business and Events, with the aim of qualifying them to host international events in the sector at international fairs, with the support of Embratur. The Agency will also take destinations from the north coast to business tourism fairs and events, such as IMEX, in Germany; and FIEXPO, in Panama, which take place at the beginning of the second quarter.
