American Airlines will reach record in international operations for this summer season

The airline will operate more than 400 flights on peak days to 117 international destinations

This IATA winter season, which corresponds to the summer season in the southern hemisphere, which runs from October 29, 2023 to March 30, 2024, American Airlines is carrying out a record international operation, which includes more than 400 flights on peak days to 117 destinations. For this season, American will offer 13% more seats internationally than last year.

“We are proud to continue growing our international network by adding even more flights for the holiday season to many of our customers’ favorite destinations around the world, such as Auckland, Cancun and Rome, to name a few,” said José A. Freig, Vice President of International Operations for Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America. “We also look forward to our exciting new flights in Latin America and the Caribbean, further positioning American as the largest U.S. airline in the region.”

New international destinations launching this summer include Governor’s Harbour, Bahamas (GHB), beginning February 3; Tijuana, Mexico (TIJ), starting February 15; and Ocho Rios, Jamaica (OCJ), beginning February 24.

Seasonal service to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) resumed on October 26 and to Montevideo, Uruguay (MVD) on October 29. Additionally, American will increase its EZE-Miami (MIA) flights from 17 to 21 weekly flights, from December 21 to March 29, 2024, and from December 5 to February 13, 2024, the airline will increase its daily service to Nueva York (JFK) to 10 weekly flights.

“American has a 33-year commitment to Argentina and we are thrilled to strengthen our operations just in time for summer travel,” said Gonzalo Schames, Chief Operating Officer for South America and Strategic Alliances. “Our seasonal flights to Buenos Aires will return stronger in 2023 with more frequencies, offering customers robust connectivity with our hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami and New York.”

A record calendar

In addition to reaching a milestone for all of its international operations this summer, including record growth of 10% for Latin America and the Caribbean and 28% for Europe, American will operate a record schedule in several international destinations, including Cancun, Mexico (CUN) , Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) and Rome, Italy (FCO).

In Cancun, for example, American will operate up to 40 daily flights to 18 destinations in the U.S., including new seasonal flights to Pittsburgh (PIT), Nashville (BNA) and Cincinnati (CVG). This will represent a growth of 6.4% compared to the previous year.

In Auckland, American will operate with 51% more capacity than last year, and the airline will operate this seasonal route from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX).

Additionally, in Rome (FCO), American will offer 119% additional capacity, with expanded service from DFW and year-round service from Philadelphia (PHL).

Other notable international markets for summer 2023-2024:

Bahamas: American continues to strengthen service between the US and the Bahamas with new flights to Governor’s Harbor (GHB) and increased operation across the country. American will fly 20 flights on peak days, from six destinations in the U.S.
Brazil: American will operate 28% more capacity in Rio de Janeiro (GIG), flying up to 13 weekly flights to JFK and MIA. Additionally, the airline plans to operate up to five daily flights from Sao Paulo (GRU) to MIA, DFW and JFK.
Costa Rica: During the peak season, American will increase its operations in San José (SJO) and Liberia (LIR), operating up to 13 flights daily and representing an 18% increase in seat capacity.
Spain: American will operate up to eight daily peak flights from Barcelona (BCN) to MIA, JFK and PHL in February; as well as from Madrid (MAD) to DFW, JFK, MIA, PHL and CLT, marking 37% more capacity than the previous year.
Ireland: American will offer 144% more seats in Dublin (DUB), with expanded year-round service from DFW and an earlier seasonal restart of flights to Charlotte (CLT) alongside existing service to Philadelphia (PHL).
Dominican Republic: American plans to operate up to 26 daily flights from its five destinations in the country, including an increase to its operation in Punta Cana (PUJ), Puerto Plata (POP) and Santiago (STI). With these additional frequencies, American will increase its capacity in the country by more than 26% compared to the previous year.
