First Look: VidantaWorld Voyages’ Elegant

Originally launched in 1990 as the Crown Monarch for Crown Cruise Line, the ship has been thoroughly transformed and reintroduced as Elegant under VidantaWorld Voyages. Now positioned as part of an ultra-luxury offering, the vessel has been dramatically downsized from a capacity of over 600 passengers to just 216 guests—prioritizing space, privacy, and highly personalized service.

According to company leadership, the vision behind Elegant centers on redefining luxury cruising. By reducing guest numbers and aiming for an almost one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio, the experience leans heavily into attentive service, flexible itineraries, and a more relaxed pace at sea.

Elevated Design and Onboard Experience

The redesigned ship embraces the feel of a private yacht rather than a traditional cruise vessel. While the original structure remains intact, all interiors have been completely reimagined with a modern, residential aesthetic. A significant portion of the accommodations—roughly one-third—are top-tier suites that include dedicated butler service. Some of the largest suites, including Governor’s and Presidential categories, feature expanded layouts with additional bathrooms.

Amenities reflect a strong emphasis on wellness and leisure. Guests will find an expansive pool area, multiple whirlpools, and a marina deck that allows direct access to the sea. The fitness center is outfitted with Technogym equipment, while the onboard spa offers treatment rooms, a couples’ suite, and separate saunas.

Social spaces are equally varied, from relaxed lounges and retail boutiques to a refreshed casino. Entertainment ranges from piano performances in intimate settings to live shows in larger venues. The Pure Sky Deck stands out as a wellness-focused retreat, complete with fire pits and heaters for evening relaxation.

Dining Without Tradition

Rather than relying on a formal main dining room, Elegant introduces a more flexible culinary approach. Guests can choose from three primary restaurants featuring Mediterranean, Asian fusion, and premium Mexican cuisine, alongside a buffet option. Casual cafés and snack venues are scattered throughout the ship, complemented by eight distinct bars and lounges.

Options range from a coffee bar serving pastries and specialty drinks to a whisky lounge, sports bar, and poolside snack spots. The variety encourages a more spontaneous dining rhythm, aligning with the ship’s overall emphasis on freedom and personalization.

Immersive Itineraries

Currently sailing the Mediterranean through October 2026, Elegant will return to the region from May through September 2027. Its seven-night itineraries focus on depth rather than breadth, highlighting regions such as the French Riviera, Spain, Italy, Portugal, the Azores, and the Greek Islands.

A key differentiator is the slower pace of travel. Overnight stays and late departures allow guests to experience destinations beyond typical port hours, with on-demand tender service offering easy access to shore for evening excursions.
