Volaris expands presence in South America with flights to Peru

Lima is the second destination of the Mexican airline in the region, after the opening of routes in Colombia

Volaris, the ultra-low-cost airline that operates in Mexico, the United States, Central and South America, lands for the first time in Peru with the routes Mexico City-Lima (MEX-LIM) and Cancun-Lima (CUN-LIM), which They start operations on June 1.

Peru is one of the markets with the highest growth in the number of Mexican visitors. Data from the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PromPerú) show that the number of tourists from Mexico doubled at the end of 2019, from 12 percent to 24 percent. In addition, the average Mexican stay is ten days and the average cost per person is around 1,100 dollars.

The Mexico City-Lima route is designed to expand the leisure travel offer, as well as encourage commercial and business exchange, by uniting two capitals. Volaris will be the first domestic ultra-low-cost airline to fly to this destination. Since its start of operations at the Mexico City International Airport, the airline has transported more than 56 million passengers on 49 routes.

For its part, the Cancun-Lima route will mainly serve the recreational tourism market, by connecting the Peruvian capital with the most important Caribbean destination, where Volaris has transported more than 26 million passengers, positioning itself as the largest operator.
